OSSLT

The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) is a mandatory standardized test for secondary school students in Ontario. The test measures whether or not students are meeting the minimum standard for literacy across all subjects. Students must pass this in order to obtain an Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

When is the OSSLT?

Tuesday, April 10, 2018

Where do I write the OSSLT and what do I need to know?

All students who are required to write the test are assigned a room and there is a predetermined seating plan they will need to follow. Students who do not write the test will not be having classes that day. Students writing need to be in their assigned class by 8:20 am with full uniform and ID. Attendance is mandatory for students writing this test. They should bring pencils, eraser or pens. They should NOT bring phones, bags or headphones. Students will not be able to use dictionaries and teachers can not answer any questions once the test has started. The test will be finished before noon for non ESL students. Please ask your homeroom teacher if you have any questions.

What will be on the test?

The literacy test assesses reading, writing, and conventions of language. Questions will be formatted in multiple choice, short writing, open-response short answer, long writing, and a news report. Practice using samples from previous years! These can be found on the EQAO website.

How do I learn more?

  • Visit the EQAO website -> click here
  • Go to Guidance and ask about the March Break OSSLT Workshop. It is being held from March 12-16, 9 am to 11:36 am.
  • Join the OSSLT Edmodo group: c6dmsj
