Virtual Athletic Ceremony 2019-2020
June 10, 2020
On the evening of June 8th Bronte College hosted our first ever Virtual Athletic Ceremony to celebrate the athletes, teams, Student Athletic Committee members, coaches and supporting staff that helped make the 2019-2020 Athletic season a success!
Coach Cyr shared her gratitude to the athletic community, “You are very appreciated by all your coaches and you have represented and continue to represent our Dragon’s community through all the adversity this year has given us. Thank you to the coaches for dedicating your time, thank you to the athletes for your effort, thank you for your hard work both in your sport and your academics, and thank you for the wonderful memories.”
This year led to many firsts, which included new awards, the addition of our first ever Cross-Country team who placed 15th overall out of over a hundred schools at the ROPSSAA championships, as well as our Dance team signing up for their first ever dance competition.
Coach Dias expressed, “Just because we didn’t get to end the year off the way we had planned, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be proud of what you accomplished. Your hard work and dedication did not go unnoticed. As a result, you are better dancers, you developed new friendships, and you made your coach proud.”
The captains and selected speakers spoke about their team’s or club’s accomplishments, memories and key learnings of the year. Funsho was named the first ever Junior Athlete of the Year, Amadou won the most awards for the night, including the Male Athlete of the Year, and Diana took the honours for the Female Athlete of the Year award.
Coach Frost concluded the event by talking about the importance of positivity, “As coaches we are positive that you all were memorable, talented and special athletes. We are positive that the cross-country team gave us a great start to our first ever season. We are positive that the basketball team reached new heights with the most decisive win in our history. We are positive that the dance team that never got to compete would have performed so well. We are positive the soccer team that never got to play would have continued a legacy. And finally, we are positive that you all being a Bronte Dragon made this school, our lives and our athletic community better!”
