Art in the City – Exploring Creativity Downtown

“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” – Edgar Degas

On Tuesday, October 14, students from AVI10, AVI20, AVI3M, AVI4M, and AP Art and Design took part in the Art in the City field trip in Downtown Toronto. This experiential learning day allowed students to explore Toronto’s diverse art scene and connect with art in real-world settings.

A highlight of the trip was a live sketching session at the TD Indigenous Art Gallery, where students observed and responded to Indigenous artworks through their own sketches. This activity encouraged students to reflect on cultural storytelling, artistic expression, and the ways art can bridge understanding between communities.

By engaging directly with professional works and creating on-site, students gained valuable inspiration for their own projects and deepened their appreciation of art as a language of identity and connection.
