Athletics Head of Department / Guidance Counsellor

Bronte College is seeking an energetic, organized, and student-centered Athletics Head of Department / Guidance Counsellor to lead our athletics program and provide meaningful academic and personal support to our students. This dual-role position is ideal for an educator who is passionate about student development, school spirit, and fostering an inclusive, high-performing academic and athletic culture.

🌟 Key Responsibilities

Athletics Leadership

  • Oversee the entire Bronte College athletics program.
  • Coordinate extra-curricular sports, coaches, and team schedules for ROPSSAA events.
  • Lead the Student Athletics Council to strengthen school spirit and student involvement.
  • Support and coordinate the Duke of Edinburgh Award program.
  • Organize competitions, contests, external tests, and related school activities.
  • Ensure student safety in class, field trips, and during athletics events.

📘 Academic Department Leadership

  • Provide guidance to teachers on lesson planning, assessment, and curriculum delivery.
  • Ensure Ministry of Education course and curriculum updates are implemented.
  • Support multi-section course consistency.
  • Assist teachers with classroom management and parent communication.
  • Oversee textbook recommendations, inventory, and distribution.
  • Ensure classrooms and hallway displays reflect student learning and current curriculum expectations.

🎓 Guidance Counselling

  • Offer academic, social, and emotional counselling to individual students.
  • Monitor student progress through interim and mid-term reporting periods.
  • Support AEP implementation each reporting cycle.
  • Lead the course selection process and assist with course changes.
  • Coordinate university liaison events, including university fairs.
  • Recommend independent courses as needed and schedule peer tutoring support.
  • Communicate with office staff regarding timetables, transcripts, and student records.
  • Assist in full-year timetable planning and course/teacher assignments.
  • Contribute to parent information nights and program development.
  • Help supervise university co-op students and oversee ILC operations.

📣 School Community & Communication

  • Maintain regular communication with parents regarding student progress.
  • Participate in parent-teacher interviews, staff meetings, and school events.
  • Uphold Bronte College’s Code of Behaviour and provide first-level discipline.
  • Support school marketing efforts, open houses, and campus tours.

🕒 Working Conditions

  • Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:00pm
  • Some evenings and weekends required for school events.
