Celebrating Asian Heritage Month!

May 29, 2025

May is Asian Heritage Month, and this year’s theme, “Unity in Diversity: The Impact of Asian Communities in Shaping Canadian Identity,” reminds us of the rich cultural diversity that defines our country. At our school, we are marking the month with activities that recognize the contributions of Asian Canadians. We have posters in the library, and during morning assembly, we introduce different Asian Canadians and highlight what they have contributed to Canada. Students are also encouraged to visit the library to explore online resources about this important national observance.

Last week, our school hosted the vibrant Celebration Fair to honor Asian Heritage Month. Teachers and students proudly wore traditional costumes, creating a colorful and festive atmosphere. A variety of cultural games were available, such as matching traditional images with countries and identifying countries on a world map. Students also had the chance to try henna art, adding a creative and cultural touch to the day’s activities.

The celebration also featured student performances, including energetic K-pop dances and beautiful vocal performances. This experience allowed students to express their talents while celebrating the diversity within our community. To wrap up the event, everyone enjoyed delicious Asian snacks like spring rolls and samosas. It was a memorable and educational experience that fostered greater cultural understanding and appreciation.

In addition, the Food Committee joined in the celebration by offering different Asian snacks featuring Korean Garlic Popcorn Chicken and Mochi. These tasty additions highlighted the richness and variety of Asian cuisine, allowing students to appreciate the culinary diversity of Asian cultures.
