A VISIT FROM OUR ALUMNI
Recently, two of our alumni, Hung and Thuy An, made a special return to campus to reconnect with the school community. During their visit, they shared insights into their post-secondary journeys, reflecting on how their time here had influenced their academic and professional paths. They thoroughly enjoyed reconnecting with former teachers and catching up with old schoolmates, reminiscing about their shared experiences. They were also given a tour of our newly renovated classrooms, which now feature modern facilities designed to enhance the learning experience, leaving them impressed by the school’s growth and progress.
DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD
Our Silver Level Duke of Edinburgh Award contenders embarked on their Practice Adventurous Journey! They focused on planning their SMART goals and timing for the Qualifying Adventurous Journey in May 2025. The students explored northern Ontario’s stunning flora and fauna, learned fishing techniques, and even cooked their meals. What an amazing experience! UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO ENGINEERING PRESENTATION
Two representatives from the University of Waterloo, Professor Ting Tsui, Director of Nanotechnology Engineering, and Nicola Kelly, Communications and Outreach Officer for Chemical Engineering and Nanotechnology Engineering, delivered a presentation to clarify the scope of Nanotechnology Engineering and Chemical Engineering. They discussed the various advantages of pursuing degrees in these fields, addressing the common uncertainty about what these disciplines entail and highlighting the exciting career opportunities available to graduates. Professor Tsui even showcased an authentic silicon substrate valued at nearly $0.3 million, providing students with a unique hands-on experience. For more Campus Updates, Click Here!
JUXTAPOSED DRAWINGS
Our Grade 12 Art students created Odd Juxtaposed Drawings using the contour drawing method, which emphasizes the outlines and shapes of subjects. This technique focuses on capturing edges and details without shading—only lines are used. In this project, juxtaposition involves placing two unrelated items side by side, transforming them into unique pieces of art.
BRONTE COLLEGE UNIVERSITY FAIR
The Bronte College and University Fair took place on October 16th and 17th, allowing students to explore different educational options. With over 25 prestigious universities and colleges, including the University of Toronto, University of Ottawa, University of Waterloo, and McMaster University, eager to showcase their programs, admission requirements, and campus life, students could interact with representatives, ask questions, and gather valuable information to make informed decisions about their futures. BRONTE COLLEGE HOUSE COMPETITION
Bronte College held its first House competition for this year, and what a fantastic event it was! All the houses put in a tremendous effort, showcasing their skills and teamwork while having a blast. The atmosphere was electric, with enthusiastic spectators cheering on their respective houses. The support from the crowd added an extra layer of excitement to the day! After a day filled with fun and spirited competition, the results were finally announced. Congratulations to Green House for clinching the trophy! TERRY FOX RUN
Last week, our students proudly participated in the Terry Fox Run, embracing the spirit of community and raising funds for cancer research in honor of Terry Fox’s legacy. EMPOWERING TOMORROW'S LEADERS: BRONTE COLLEGE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
At Bronte College, we are committed to nurturing the leaders of tomorrow by offering innovative programs. Our Leadership Program for grades 9 and 10 students has been carefully designed to inspire, empower, and shape young minds into capable and compassionate leaders. It goes beyond traditional classes, providing a transformative experience encourages students to explore their unique leadership potential.
One of the program’s most outstanding features is a camping excursion to Camp Tawingo, nestled amidst the beautiful lakes of Muskoka. Our students recently had the privilege of experiencing this unforgettable adventure. They actively participated in a diverse range of outdoor activities, including hiking, setting up camp, practicing fire-building skills, constructing tents, embarking on canoeing expeditions, preparing their meals over open flames, spending nights under the starry sky in tents, enjoying leisure time for relaxation or sports, taking refreshing swims, and marvelling at the breathtaking autumn foliage that surrounded them.

GO KARTING (K1 SPEED)
Bronte College students had an exciting weekend outing at K1 Speed Go-Karting. They raced around the track, enjoying friendly competition and bonding outside the classroom. THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
Ms. Power started her career in Business before transitioning to the medical field as a genetic counselor. Her passion for teaching, sparked by tutoring high school students, led her to a career in education. She has taught in Queensland, Australia, and served as Principal at William Academy and Hudson College. Ms. Power holds multiple graduate diplomas, a master’s degree, and certifications in International School Leadership and Education Law. Her education spans institutions including York University, the University of New England, Charles Sturt
University, the University of the Sunshine Coast, the University of Wollongong, and Queen’s University.

CULTURE AND DIVERSITY
In Ms. Roihaan’s World Cultures class, the grade 12 students participated in an engaging activity to promote understanding of culture and diversity. During this activity, students explored and shared the various elements contributing to their identities, such as their cultural backgrounds, family traditions, and individual experiences. They engaged in thoughtful discussions and reflective exercises highlighting how these diverse elements come together to shape who they are. BEGINNING OF THE NEW ACADEMIC YEAR
During Orientation Week, students participated in various activities and received essential introductions. The schedule featured document verification and uniform fittings to make sure everything was prepared. Key figures such as the Head of School, Head of Governance, teachers, and the school nurse offered valuable insights and information. Additionally, students enjoyed a Welcome BBQ, which served as a chance to socialize and connect with both the staff and their new classmates. SUMMER CAMP ADVENTURES
Our campers have had a busy few weeks with many exciting activities and experiences! They visited the Museum of Illusions, took part in friendly competitions, enjoyed karaoke, and came up with futuristic ideas. They also went on a trip to Quebec to experience French-Canadian culture, toured Ottawa, and Montreal, and tried delicious Canadian specialties. Our campers also got to embrace the outdoors by learning campfire building, going canoeing along the Toronto River, and having fun at the water park. They visited Toronto Downtown and the iconic CN Tower, went on an overnight camping trip, shopped at Square One Mall, enjoyed thrilling rides at Canada’s Wonderland, and visited the majestic Niagara Falls.

SUMMER SESSION ORIENTATION
Bronte College’s orientation week began on Tuesday to welcome new students to campus. The week started with introductions to our student Dons, Head of School Ms. Power, and Head of Student Governance Dr. Gouda. Students received their uniforms, house t-shirts, and ID cards. GRADES 9-11 EXCELLENCE AWARDS
Our Grades 9-11 Excellence Awards were held where students were awarded academic awards, certifications, and participation awards, including the University of Waterloo Sir Isaac Newton Contest Certificate, the University of Toronto’s National Biology Competition Certificate, The World Scholars Cup Certificate, and awards including Junior Female and Male Leadership Awards and Community Service Awards. Bronte College Prom 2024
On June 7th, Bronte College’s prom took place at the Renaissance by the Creek in Mississauga. The students looked amazing in their fancy clothes. They started the night with a nice dinner with four different courses. The ballroom echoed with laughter and happiness as the night went on. Everyone dancing and having fun together made the night special. Stephanie was crowned Prom Queen and Holy was crowned Prom King not only because they looked great but because they carried themselves with confidence.
THE WORLD SCHOLARS CUP
A big congratulations to the Bronte College Debate Team for their outstanding performance at the World Scholars Cup in Cobourg. This year, they won a total of 30 gold medals and 17 silver medals. Samantha particularly stood out as she achieved gold in 5 out of 6 categories and silver in the remaining category. She was awarded two trophies, the Jack Khor Award and the overall 1st place scholar. In total, Bronte College placed second in the competition and all 3 teams qualified for the global round. INTERNATIONAL VIRTUAL ART MARATHON
Our entire school was excited as we participated in the International Virtual Art Marathon. The artistic journey started in the United Arab Emirates, and Bronte College eagerly joined in as the North American ambassador for the journey. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our creativity and artistic talents globally. FIELD TRIP TO SQUARE ONE
Ms. Roihan’s and Ms. Kamboj’s Career Studies class visited Square One Shopping Mall. During the visit, students interviewed mall employees to understand their job roles, required skills, and career opportunities. Ms. Kamboj’s Grade 11 Economics class also visited Square One Mall to analyze the impact of globalization on the Canadian economy. They assessed the manufacturing origins of goods sold in the market and compared the profit margins of two competing industries. INTRASCHOOL OLYMPICS
Last Friday, our students participated in the Annual Bronte Olympics, where our student athletic council organized games and tasks for each house group to complete. Hip- Hop and Breakdancing
A dance instructor visited our school recently to teach hip hop and break dancing to our physical education class. Hip-hop dance is a collection of street dance styles that are mainly performed to hip-hop music or have evolved from hip-hop culture. The dance style is influenced by a diverse range of styles that originated in the 1970s.

Our ESL and Mandarin students embarked on an educational trip to the Royal Ontario Museum, where they had the chance to explore the diverse exhibitions from around the world, which provided an exciting opportunity for them to broaden their horizons about world history and culture. TWIN DAY AT BRONTE
During the Spirit Day challenge at Bronte College, students participated in Twin Day, which involved dressing up in matching outfits with their friends. This fun activity brought students together, promoting unity within the community. It has been a busy time for the sports teams at Bronte College. Recently, the Bronte Badminton Team played an interschool game and each player made Bronte proud with their dedication, determination, and focus. Tony (Tin Lok) performed exceptionally well and secured 3rd Place in the High School division. We are all proud of him! Likewise, our Co-ed Volleyball team played an impressive inter-school tournament and although all the players played an amazing game and showcased their talent, Elias stood out and was awarded the MVP medal for Bronte. YOGA SESSION
A yoga instructor was invited to join our Physical Education class to teach our students various poses and exercises that improve flexibility, strength, and balance. Yoga not only helps in enhancing physical fitness but also fosters overall well-being by integrating mind, body, and spirit through mindful movement and breath awareness. A VISIT TO THE LIVING ARTS CENTRE
Our Visual Arts students recently took a trip to the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga to attend a Clay Mask Workshop. During this workshop, they gained hands-on experience in sculpting and molding techniques. This immersive experience allowed them to explore and express their creativity, enriching their understanding of the visual arts.
GO DRAGONS!
Our co-ed volleyball team recently participated in an all-day tournament, where we witnessed some great setting, passing, volleying, spiking, and serving. The team worked hard and kept the losses close, and also had some big wins! Overall, they learned the importance of perseverance and had much fun. Way to go, Dragons! VISIT TO OUR PARTNER AND SISTER SCHOOLS IN CHINA
Ms. Powers, our head of school, recently had a wonderful opportunity to travel to several cities in China, including Zhengzhou. During her visit, she met with the administration, teachers, students, and parents of our partner school, ZhengZhou #7 and our sister school, Sancha Middle School in Chengdu. This trip provided her with a deeper understanding of China’s rich culture, history, and cuisine. Ms. Powers’ visit was a great success and has strengthened our relationship with our sister and partner schools, paving the way for further opportunities for cross-cultural exchange and collaboration. Skate Ontario Provincial Championship Winner
Bronte College is incredibly proud of our student, Joy, for her exceptional performances at the Skate Ontario Provincial Championships in Ontario. Joy demonstrated her talent and unwavering dedication in both the Gold Artistic category and the Novice Women Free Program category, which earned her two impressive Silver Medals for the entire province of Ontario. Go-Karting Trip
Our Campus Life Team organized an exciting outdoor trip for the students to go go-karting at K1 Speed Mississauga. This challenge provided a competitive environment where students could showcase their driving skills on the venue’s indoor tracks. The tracks were designed to offer a safe yet thrilling atmosphere, where our students engaged in multiple races to achieve the lowest lap times. The top three positions were recognized with medals as a token.

SAINT PATRICK'S DAY TRIVIA
At Bronte, we value diversity and inclusion, and we actively promote and celebrate these values. Our Campus Life Team recently organized a special Kahoot session in honour of St. Patrick’s Day, aimed at enhancing students’ appreciation and understanding of different cultures. Participants were encouraged to form teams that brought together individuals from different backgrounds and experiences to work collaboratively during the session. This approach not only emphasized the importance of teamwork and communication but also highlighted the idea that diversity is a strength that enhances learning and creativity.
A Visit To Wilfrid Laurier University
Our students recently attended an open house event at Wilfrid Laurier University. During the event, they were given a guided tour around the campus, had the opportunity to meet with faculty members, and received swag bags. One of our students even won a gift card in the lucky draw. Visiting open houses can provide students with a valuable glimpse into what university life can be like!
VISUAL ART
Visual art is a broad term that refers to a diverse range of art forms that convey messages, meanings, and emotions through visual means such as paintings, sculptures, drawings, and digital art. Recently, Ms. Motiwala’s Grade 12 Visual Arts students created an awe-inspiring collection of artworks showcasing their talent, hard work, and creativity. The artworks were a stunning reflection of the students’ artistic abilities and demonstrated their exceptional skill in bringing their imaginative ideas to life on the canvas. THE ART OF TAI CHI
Our students had a special visit from a Sifu (Instructor) for their gym class. The Sifu taught them the art of Tai chi, which involves a series of slow, gentle movements and physical postures, along with a meditative state of mind and controlled breathing. Our students learned various techniques under the Sifu’s guidance to develop flexibility, strength, and mindfulness.
TABLE TENNIS TOURNAMENT
Our table tennis team took part in the qualifier tournament at the ROPSSAA TABLE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP 2024 – We had two Senior Boys Doubles teams and two Senior Boys Singles participating in the competition. All team members put in a lot of effort and performed well. Our best player was Zakaria, who secured the 5th position overall in the championship. For more Campus Updates, Click here.
TRIP TO THE ONTARIO SCIENCE CENTRE
Our grade 11 biology and chemistry students visited “Way to Glow” at the Ontario Science Centre, where they engaged in a biotechnology lab focusing on the transformation of E. coli bacteria. The lab involved inserting the Glow Gene “gP40” and an ampicillin-resistant gene “bla” into non-pathogenic E. coli strains. The results revealed that bacterial colonies glowing under UV light had successfully incorporated the glow gene into their DNA. This hands-on experience provided insight into genetic engineering, typically conducted at the university level, with potential applications in neuroscience and human genetics research.
GRAVITATIONAL FORCE EXPERIMENT
During a recent physics class, our students experimented to analyze the correlation between height, acceleration, and gravity. This allowed them to explore fundamental principles of motion and gravitational force. It was fascinating to see how each student had unique ideas that came to life during the experiment. FAMILY DAY WEEKEND
Our school is committed to diversity and inclusivity, and to celebrate the upcoming Family Day Weekend, the Student Food Committee organized an event with the theme “Bronte: A Family of Different Cultures”, which highlighted the significance of acknowledging and appreciating the diverse cultural backgrounds within our community. To commemorate the occasion, students were encouraged to wear clothing that represents their home countries or any cultural significance.
VALENTINE'S DAY
Our Student Food Committee arranged a special Valentine’s Day dinner on Wednesday, that included delicious food, a chocolate fountain to dip marshmallows in, and yummy cupcakes to end the meal. For more Campus Updates, Click Here.
At Bronte, we place great importance on the value of diversity and strive to create an inclusive environment that encourages students to engage in intercultural pursuits. Our community comprises students from over 32 different nationalities, and we believe that cultural exchange enriches our campus experience. Recently, we celebrated the Lunar New Year, where our students enjoyed a scrumptious feast and participated in creating special decorations for this festive event. It was a wonderful celebration that brought our community together.
To welcome our new students and help them meet fellow students, the Campus Life Team organized a series of events, including a lantern-making session to celebrate the upcoming Lunar New Year, a baking session where participants learned how to make Puff Puffs from scratch, and a fun taste test where everyone was given nine different types of Lay’s chips to try and guess the flavours. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
The Canadian government has made changes to the international student program, including caps on international students, attestation letters, and increased financial requirements. However, these changes do not affect current students renewing study permits at Bronte College, nor do they apply to our graduates. Bronte College students renewing study permits or applying to university do not need attestation letters either. Students renewing permits while at boarding school should demonstrate a reasonable bank balance, and it's advised to indicate that boarding fees cover accommodation and meals. Those applying for university must show access to $20,635 for accommodation, including providing receipts if the accommodation has been prepaid.
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR JANUARY GRADUATES
Congratulations to the graduates of January who have completed their high school journey and are now ready to embark on a new beginning. They are eagerly waiting for acceptance letters from universities of their choice, including the University of Toronto, University of Waterloo, York University, etc.
Bronte College has partnered with the University of Ottawa to waive the IELTS requirement for graduates who have achieved a score of 80% or higher in ENG4U. Students from Bronte College embarked on a trip to Ottawa where they immersed themselves in Canadian culture at The National Gallery, explored Byward Market, and visited uOttawa’s Engineering Department, during an organized open house
Bronte College has recently launched a Leadership Program designed for students in grades 9 and 10. The program aims to foster capable and compassionate leaders through a transformative experience that goes beyond traditional classroom learning. A critical component of the program is a camping excursion to Camp Tawingo in Muskoka, which involves over 32 students in a variety of outdoor activities that help build leadership skills and promote self-exploration amidst the scenic lakes and autumn foliage of the region.

They engaged in a diverse range of activities, such as hiking, setting up camp, building fires, constructing tents, canoeing, and preparing their meals. They experienced nights under the stars, enjoyed leisure time, refreshing swims, and marveled at the beautiful autumn foliage, creating lasting memories.
We’re excited to welcome Sancha Lake Middle School from Chengdu, China to our Bronte College Sister School program.. This program enables cultural exchange through interactive online classes, providing students with a better understanding of each other’s cultures, languages, and educational systems. As part of the program, our teachers and students participated in virtual cooking and art classes, where both schools contributed to give each other a taste of their teaching methods.
